Sleeping on the Job – Is it Sleep Apnea?

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and sleeping on the job really can have an impact on your job performance according to recent studies. In a recent study that had around 150 people in it, 83 of these people did have sleep apnea and what the results showed was that they suffered job performance issues. The study also showed that many people had excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS).

The study also showed that people were 14-times more likely to suffer job related performance issues within the past 4 weeks. Usually these problems would range from missing work due to being to tired to basically sleeping on the job. This studies results also shown that people with EDS and OSA had their job modified for example taking a pay cut or even missing a promotion.

In another recent study of people who had OSA, 957 people were compared to around almost 5,000 others. What these results showed was that 80% of women would miss work compared to that of 61% of men when they had sleep apnea. It can be seen that women have this risk about 5 years before even being diagnosed compared to that of men being seen one year before diagnosed.
